LOSALINI Dikere says she will be haunted by images of her sister being hit by a car and dragged several metres before coming to a halt.

The 16-year-old said she ran after the car last Saturday after it allegedly hit and killed 7-year-old Anivine Natabaca.

“I ran after the car and called out to the driver to stop because I could see my sister stuck under the car, but it kept going,” she shared.

She said her sister had followed her to a car wash located across their Tamavua-i-wai home, where the alleged accident happened.

“I finally saw the car outside the Delainavesi Community Post where the driver was making a report of the incident. They didn’t know my sister was under the car until I told them.”

Her father, Vilikesa Natabaca, said his younger daughter was a quiet child.

“I am thankful that at a young age she loved going to church and was someone who prayed a lot,” he said.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said a 19-year-old man was in police custody in connection with the accident that occurred on Saturday night.

“The suspect is alleged to have bumped the victim who was crossing the road with an adult and another child,” she said.

The road death toll currently stands at 35 compared with 36 for the same period last year.
