Fiji’s heavyweight boxing champion James Singh reveals his secret recipe to become a boxing champion is the support from his family.

The 25-year-old professional boxer has always had his father and two uncles beside him and despite the result of his fights they have managed to groom the young star to become a heavyweight champion at the age of 24.

“Boxing is not about the boxer,” Singh said.

“What I do and how I perform in the ring will always reflect on how I was trained.

“Through the assistance of my father and my uncles who were always in my corner, I have managed to be where I am today, and I thank them for that,” said Singh.

Singh believes his respect for his family is a source of the blessing he has received to become a champion in local boxing.

“It’s biblical and it’s also taught at home that respecting our elders and obeying our parents will bring you prosperity and blessings.

“My struggles in training and the hardships I faced, I kept one thing in mind and that is to respect my elders despite the situation.”
