Faith-based organisations urged to play prominent role

MINISTER for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa has called on faith-based organisations to play a prominent role in advocating for poverty alleviation and the elimination of family and gender-based violence.
She made this call while addressing hundreds of members of the church congregation at the New Methodist Christian Fellowship Global Conference 2019 at the National Stadium earlier in the week.
“As members of civil society, religious congregations like yourselves are often actively engaged in supporting people living in poverty with short-term responses,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.
“In addition to providing direct service, faith communities can be great advocates at the local, state, and national levels for the poor, working for equitable and just policies that provide a safety net for society’s most vulnerable people,” she said.
