LAUTOKA’S Churchill Park will undergo major upgrade works in the coming years.
Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Kumar confirmed this during the official opening of the 2019 Vodafone Fiji FACT at the venue yesterday saying talks were already at play for the upgrade.
“In a few years’ time, the whole arena will go through a major upgrading,” Mr Kumar said.
“We are talking with Fiji Rugby Union to upgrade the pavilions. This will not only be done at Churchill Park but at Ba’s Govind Park as well.”
Minister Kumar thanked the fans for the continuous support towards the sport.
“Sports play an important role in our nation. It continues to help in nation building. It creates an environment for lasting friendship.”
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said football was all about fans and their support mattered.
“We have tried our best to listen to the fans and make changes accordingly. We try and give you the best matches on the field. We are improving according to your suggestion. Attendance of fans is important and we hope to see a huge turnout in the next three days,” said Patel.
Meanwhile, in matches today, Suva battles Tavua at 1pm, Rewa takes on Nadi at 3pm, Ba plays Nasinu at 5pm while in the feature match of day two, hosts Lautoka battles Labasa at 7pm.
Pool matches continue tomorrow while the semifinals and final will be played next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
