Twenty-two logging contractors attended the Ministry of Forestry organised ‘Logging Contractors Consultation’ for the Western Division at their office in Lautoka last week.

The ministry’s executive director operations and services, Tevita Bulai, said for the financial year 2021-2022, they managed to achieve an export revenue of $108.5 million.

“This was a very good achievement in comparison to the 2020-2021 financial year, considering the impact of COVID-19 that affected our country in terms of visitor arrivals as a result of travel and other restrictions in place,” he said.

Mr Bulai said as an industry, it was very pleasing knowing that they had managed to lift their performance especially during the pandemic.

“To the loggers, we could not have done it without your support in terms of generating logs and production.

“I know there is challenges in meeting demands especially that of our local market, let alone our export market.”

He urged the ministry, loggers and relevant stakeholders that the onus was on them with regards to their production and performance.
