Local tech experts have been urged to adopt eco-friendly practices in their ICT strategies to bolster sustainability at the forefront of ICT planning.

Communications and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica referred to the issue while officiating at the 2023 Datec Fiji Tech Summit on Natadola, Sigatoka yesterday.

“As we witness the environmental impact of technology, it becomes imperative to adopt eco-friendly practices in our ICT strategies, such as energy-efficient data centres, responsible disposal of electronic waste, and the development of green technologies,” he said.

“By doing so, we not only ensure the success of our respective organisations but also contribute to a future where technology serves as a force for positive transformation. “So, let us plan wisely, adapt boldly, and embark on this journey into the future of information technology with confidence and purpose.”

The minister said Government was processing the licence for Starlink, a leading satellite broadband provider, and when operational it would have 100 per cent internet coverage throughout Fiji.
