Expect rain during Easter

A TROUGH of low pressure with associated cloud and rain will affect the country over the long Easter weekend.
Fiji Meteorological Service director Ravind Kumar said the trough was expected to become active with a tropical low pressure system developing along the trough to the west of Fiji.
“The low is likely to intensify into a disturbance and deepen into a tropical depression within the vicinity of the Fiji group,” he said.
“The possibility of the system developing into a tropical cyclone remains low to moderate for the next three days.
“As the tropical low develops and intensifies, wind will gradually turn northerly, become stronger and gusty from Friday or Saturday. If the system draws closer to Fiji, damaging gale winds could be anticipated over the Western Division, Kadavu and nearby islands.”
He said if the tropical low intensified, more rain was expected in the coming days.
