EXPECT to see more police officers out and about this month in the lead-up to the festive season.

This after divisional police commanders were directed to ensure maximum visibility, particularly in major towns and cities.

Chief operations officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maretino Qiolevu said they had also been directed to conduct regular visitations to rural communities as well.

He said festive season operations commenced yesterday and would continue until the first week of January 2020.

“The festive season also records an increase in petty crimes and alcohol-related incidents which we are mindful of and our community policing officers are already visiting their communities conducting awareness about personal safety and security of their properties,” Mr Qiolevu said.

“We do hope that members of the public will also play their part in prioritising their personal safety.

“With more social gatherings and festivities planned over the coming months, we are pleading with people to enjoy themselves responsibly as alcohol has been linked to a number of serious cases in the past.”
