Exchange hosts annual awards

THE South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) now represents 11 different sectors of the economy and has a market capitalisation with an year to date average of $3.5 billion.

This was highlighted by SPX chairwoman Dr Nur Bano Ali during the exchange’s annual awards event in Suva last Friday as she noted the key recent achievements of the organisation, which celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year.

She added they anticipated a further three companies to be listed on the stock market by mid next year.

Commenting on the awards, Dr Ali said it had the ultimate aim to inspire organisations and individuals to take pride in their respective fields of work and was a way for SPX to acknowledge the people and institutions that supported it to be a business in transformation.

“As the front-line regulator for the stock market, SPX is proud to hold such an event which promotes various universal core values such as integrity, ethics, accountability and inclusivity which form the fundamentals of SPX’s regulatory work.”

SPX chief executive officer Krishika Narayan said the awards event allowed them to display the successes of the annual report award entrants, brokers and listed entities.

She said it also provided them with an exclusive platform to encourage the many savers attending the event to consider shares as part of their investment portfolio and to inspire executives of companies to rethink their business strategies and consider the stock market as an alternative platform to raise capital.

The recipients of the annual report awards are:

  • Best presentation and content (listed entities): Fijian Holdings Ltd
  • Best presentation and content (unlisted organisations): Fiji National University
  • Best reporting and disclosure (listed entities): Vision Investments Ltd
  • Best reporting and disclosure (unlisted organisations): Fiji National Provident Fund
  • Special award (listed entities): Pleass Global Ltd
  • Special award (unlisted organisations): Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd

The recipients of the grand awards are:

  • Award for outstanding contribution to stockbroking: Raghni Khatri (Kontiki Stockbroking Ltd)
  • Listed entity of the year: Pleass Global Ltd
  • Spotlight award: Innovator of the year: FijiCare Insurance Ltd SPX also awarded the winners of its national poster competition for school children, which focused on financial literacy. According to the exchange, the competition had assisted the organisation to reach a wider spectrum of the community to promote knowledge about savings and investment options in the stock market.

The winners of the National Poster Competition are:

  • Category 1: Jenica Kumar (Bhawani Dayal Memorial Primary School
  • Category 2: Natasha Roneeta Prasad (Tavua College)
  • Category 3: Natasha Jacintha Prasad (Rishikul Sanatan College)

Next year’s SPX annual awards function will be held during the 15th World Exchange Congress on Denarau Island, according to Dr Ali.
