THE European Union today handed over 50 disaster preparedness kits to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Jone Usamate.

EU Pacific Ambassador Sujiro Seam said Fiji, like any other Pacific country, was vulnerable to life-threatening natural disasters.

“Therefore, it is important that people are well prepared to face natural disasters,” Mr Seam said.

Mr Usamate acknowledged the support from the EU.

According to the National Disaster Management Office, the kits gave a value of close to $11,000 which included solar power banks, emergency whistle, water bottle, mini first aid kit, solar lantern, waterproof raincoat, and a female hygiene pack that comes in a red dry bag.
