EQUAL treatment for people living with disabilities is far from being achieved and we need your expertise, passion and commitment to move this agenda at the levels that Government does not reach, says Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar.

She highlighted this in her opening address yesterday while opening the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation biennial general meeting in Suva.

“Government has been supporting our civil society partners like yourselves and others with the understanding and belief that the goal of achieving equal treatment for people living with disabilities is far from achieved and we need your expertise, passion and commitment to move this agenda at the levels that Government does not reach,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

“I must say we have made a bullet start by putting in place the strongest legal platform through the 2013 Constitution and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, which mandates Government and the non-government sector to take action to ensure that the rights of persons living with disabilities are recognised.”
