From the city lights to his rural home of Natewa, Josaia Matalau has no regrets coming home early following the COVID-19 school break.

And despite the distance, the Year 9 student of Marist Brothers High School has stayed true to his daily zoom classes.

The Kaila! team caught up with him and a few other students who were at a shed at Vunisaiki Primary School in Natewa attending their assignments and zoom classes.

“I am enjoying my break here at home and the zoom classes everyday and it’s good to see students from other schools come to the shed as we all work together,” he said.

“The zoom classes have been good because we get to ask teachers many questions and they also clarify some issues with us.”

Also with Josaia at the shed was Timoci Waqa, a Year 13 student of Navatu Secondary School.

“We have also helped each other with various subjects and it has been a lot of fun because we give ideas as well,” he said.

“We meet at this shed everyday and we thank the teachers of this primary school for providing us with a place and the network access to have our zoom classes.”
