ENGLAND was the first big team to be bundled out of the Hong Kong 7s tournament after losing to Samoa in the 13th place semi-final
Samoa, like England missed out on the cup quarter-finals after winning only one game out of their three pool matches.
The Gordon Tietjens-coached Samoa side managed to score six tries to England’s two. Samoa won 33-10
Missing some of their big names like Dan Norton, Dan Bibby, Tom Bowen, Phil Burgess, Alex Davis, Richard de Carpentier, Ollie Lindsay-Hague, Ruaridh McConnochie, Tom Mitchel and James Rodwell, Ethan Waddleton, who are all in Australia for Commonwealth Games, England just didn’t click from the start of the competition.
The second big team to be bundled out was Australia, this year’s Sydney 7s winner.
After being relegated to play in the trophy competition after the second day of competition, Australia was beaten by France 24-12 in the trophy semi-final.
The Australian side included only one player familiar at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series competition in Con Foley.
Fijian Tavite Veredamu scored a try for the French side.
