He broke Kiwi hearts, but England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler may help save lives with the lucrative auction of his Cricket World Cup-winning shirt.
The highest bid ahead of the auction closing on eBay on Wednesday morning (NZ time) was a whopping $NZ136,335 on Tuesday morning.
Buttler is auctioning the shirt to raise money for a life-saving piece of equipment for the Royal Brompton Hospital in London as it fights the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s the long-sleeved shirt he wore when he completed the run-out of Black Caps opener Martin Guptill on July 14 last year to give hosts England victory in the Super Over finish to a dramatic World Cup final at Lord’s.
Buttler told The Daily Telegraph he chose the Royal Brompton hospital because his wife’s aunt is the hospital’s head of paediatrics.
The money raised is set to be used on a ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine, which provides life support in people who are seriously ill with lung or heart failure.
