Emotional visit for beauties

VASEVA Kurucake could not hold back tears when she, along with nine other TFL Sugar Festival contestants, visited Golden Age Home in Natabua, Lautoka, yesterday.

The 19-year-old visited the senior citizens home for the first time and was filled with emotion when seeing the elderly.

Sponsored by Sensons Transport Services, Ms Kurucake said she was moved by the conversations she had with the residents.

“I chatted with one man who told me he had been at the home for 20 years,” she said.

“What was even more surprising was that when I asked for his age, he informed me he was 90 years old.

“They were all happy and smiled at us when we visited. Even through all the difficulties they face, they still manage to have a smile on their faces.”

Co-ordinator Michael Faga said not a single contestant was able to control her emotion.

“They were all in tears, especially because it was their first time visiting the Golden Age Home,” he said.

The visit at the Golden Age Home was the only one for the contestants yesterday as they took the day off to prepare for the first public judging last night.
