ELLINGTON Wharf in Rakiraki will be reopened for business from this weekend.

The wharf was closed on November 25 after part of its berthing ramp collapsed into the sea.

Ship operators have agreed to start operations from Sunday.

“We are giving more time for the concrete to gain strength and this is after consultation with the two main operators,” said the Fiji Roads Authority in a statement.

“Patterson Shipping will commence on Sunday and Goundar Shipping will be commencing next week Monday.”

An FRA assessment had shown damage had been caused when ships collided the ramp while berthing, resulting in FRA urging shipping companies to improve their mooring practice to avoid further damage to the wharf.
