HONIARA- With the election fever gaining momentum all electoral staff members in Solomon Islands have been urged to practise professional ethics in their job.
This warning was issued to all electoral managers, returning officers (RO) and presiding officers (PO) at a training this week.
They have been reminded to conduct themselves in an ethical manner because they are gatekeepers of democracy in the country.
“You should be courteous, polite and helpful at all times. Remember to treat all voters (women and men) equally with respect,” the commission said.
Electoral training adviser Ross Attrill emphasised this week during the electoral managers’ training that as electoral managers they must act to the highest standard of integrity, neutrality, transparency, fairness and respect for the secrecy of the vote.
These information were given out to the electoral managers as they will take on the important role during the election.
