FOR the past eight years Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) has not been given a tariff increase but continues to perform well, says board chairman Daksesh Patel.

He said they achieved this through encouraging their employees to work hard.

“We take employees and encourage them to even get better and we have outperformed many other public enterprise organisations,” Mr Patel said.

“We’re the only infrastructural organisation that is self-funding and does not have a budget allocation from the Government on an annual basis.”

He said EFL strived through internal profit gains.

“We sustain ourselves from making profit internally, for both capital expenditure and operating expenses,” he said.

“We sustain ourselves by having financial prudence and ensuring our debt coverage is met annually and we’re able to borrow and grow annually.”

Mr Patel adds it is not easy for an organisation such as EFL to succeed and continue to expand its capacity.
