The Ministry of Education is now allowing managements and heads of schools to deal directly with the Education Ministry’s permanent secretary on matters related to grants.

The changes came as a result of delays noted by the ministry when it came to decisions on the use of grants.

“We have seen in the past, the communication channel is so winded that by the time it reaches the permanent secretary’s desk, is like two years,” said Minister for Education Premila Kumar in Ba last week.

“We don’t want that. You can make your request to the permanent secretary and then there is a process where she will be feeding this into the different heads of section, and if the heads of section require additional information then they will come to the district office.

“If your application is crystal clear, with all the photos, justification and everything then there is no need for any referral to the district level.”
