Opposition members of Parliament have been invited to attend the national economic summit that will be organised soon.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Biman Prasad revealed this while speaking at the National Federation Party’s Rakiraki branch annual general meeting yesterday.

“Last week I have personally signed letters of invitation for the members from the Opposition side in Parliament to attend the national economic summit,” he said.

“We believe that we need to move ahead as a country.

“We believe in consultation, dialogue and cooperation including the Opposition members in Parliament.”

He said a Fiscal Review Committee had been appointed to look at the expenditure, revenue and tax policies.

“One thing that we have found out is that the country is in a difficult economic situation with respect to our debt levels.

“We have to progress in a way that we are able to consolidate our fiscal position, our financial position and to also ensure that we look after our people.”

“We need to spend probably billions of dollars in fixing our water supply, our roads and our health facilities.”

Prof Prasad opened an office for the National Federation Party after the branch AGM yesterday.

Also attending the meeting were Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua and Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Sashi Kiran.
