The Western Division recorded the most number of complaints lodged against the Ebay Shop.
In a report, police confirmed that 38 out of 41 complaints received were from the region where two offices were allegedly established by the masterminds of the scam.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Mesake Waqa said two complaints were received from Labasa and one was from Suva.
ACP Waqa said two people were taken in for questioning in Suva and released as investigations continued.
According to police, a team of CID officers was working closely with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) and the Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
“Two task forces have been set up in the Western and Central divisions, and anyone who wishes to lodge a complaint is requested to lodge at either the Lautoka or Totogo police stations,” a police statement read.
“If you cannot make it to either of the locations, you may call the respective police stations on 9905 660 Lautoka and Totogo on 9905 834.”
According to the Consumer Council, the Ebay Shop had offices in Nadi and Lautoka from where the agents worked to recruit potential investors.
