AS Fijians commemorated Jesus Christ’s crucifixion yesterday, more than 100 passengers on board the MV Liahona II, who were on their way to spend Easter in Kadavu, were in fear of their lives after the ramp detached from the vessel early yesterday morning.

The vessel, carrying 121 passengers including crew members, left Suva on Friday night for Kadavu.

The Rescue Coordination Centre Fiji (RCC FIJI) confirmed it received a phone call from a member of the public at 6.50am yesterday alerting them of a maritime emergency onboard the MV Liahona II.

The Fiji Navy vessel, RFNS Kikau, was deployed to escort the vessel to Kavala where all passengers disembarked to safety.
