E-ticketing: Time review for students’ blue cards

Update: 4:19PM FIJI’S Ministry of Education is now working on implementing a system where students will only be able to use their e-ticketing cards from 5am to 7pm.
Attorney-General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed this saying this system would allow students to use their e-ticketing cards from Monday to Saturday and on the given time.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had some abuse since e-ticketing started. We’ve actually had some parents using their children’s cards, we’ve had some people using cards late in the night and they are obviously not going to school, and obviously not coming back from school,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
“So we have worked out with the bus companies that from Monday to Saturday, students can use their cards and that is the blue card and from any time between 5am and 7pm.
“This will need to be implemented in the next couple of weeks to ensure that all the e-ticketing machine actually comply with that so it won’t be able to read it after 7pm or prior to 5am.
“It will take a couple of weeks or so to be able to ensure that all those times are adhered to but of course, six days a week within those times they can travel using those cards.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said more than 25,000 students had so far registered for the e-ticketing program.
