THE Government’s new E-passport that was expected to be on rolled out next Monday will be delayed.

It was announced that on August 26, the new e-passport will be launched.

However, because of the latest features and the new system, the department will organise familiarisation training for the authorities, which will take approximately seven to 10 working days before the e-passport is issued.

Fiji’s Director of Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa said Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama would launch the e-passport at a later date.

“Other than that, that is where we are at the moment, it is very unfortunate that due to some logistical issues from our suppliers, we were not able to deliver the launching of the e-passport on time, but I would like to assure the members of the public that it will still happen,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.

The e-passport is expected to be rolled out by mid-September.

This new system focuses on strengthening border security and streamline customs and immigration, decreasing passenger processing time and creating an easier more efficient travel experience in Fiji.
