Duo welcomed by their respective ministries

Two newly appointed permanent secretaries have been welcomed by their respective ministries in Suva last week.

Mere Siqila-Lakeba is the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Waterways and Environment and commenced her duties last Thursday.

Ms Siqila-Lakeba previously held the position of director of fisheries in the Ministry of Fisheries.

She spent 17 years at the ministry before venturing as the country director for Conservation International Fiji.

During the welcoming meet, she acknowledged the ministry’s staff for their continuous contribution and unwavering support.

Meanwhile, former director of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Ashwin Raj was welcomed as the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

During the event, he highlighted to the staff the importance of the ministry’s role in empowering those who were vulnerable, including women, children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.
