Aspiring pilot Steven Gauna of Marist Brothers High School will join students from across the world for a one-week space camp with the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) in the US next August.

He was selected alongside Suva Christian Community School student Hayli Lucas.

Yesterday, the lad from Mabula Village on Cicia in Lau was among students invited to the US Embassy in Suva to engage with NASA deputy administrator James Morhard through a virtual meeting.

“It is an honour to be selected by the US Embassy to be part of this prestigious program,” the 17-year-old said.

“To be part of a program by NASA is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so grateful.”

Mr Gauna said his mother had encouraged him to take part in an essay competition which led to his selection for the program.

US Embassy officials said the all-expenses paid space camp program provided a unique opportunity for students to participate in the ultimate educational experience that illuminated real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, art and math.
