TWO Judokas will represent Fiji in the Auckland International Open Judo in New Zealand today.
Seon Ho Park and Nathalyn Takayawa have set their sights on winning gold in the competition.
For 17-year-old Marist Brothers High School lad Park, he hopes to get as much exposure and learn as much as he can since this is his first international tournament.
“I am really happy to represent Fiji since I just got my Fijian citizenship and for me this is a really challenging sport,” Park said.
“This sport is all about respect to your opponent, you have to be humble and be firm and now I have to control my weight which is another challenge.
“This sport requires a lot of endurance and keeping up with your techniques.
“I am glad that we just finished our exams which gave me time to train and I am really glad for the support from my parents towards my judo career,” he said.
For 18-year-old USP student Nathalyn, she aims to win gold as she has been winning silver for the past five years.
“Training has been hard and coming from a sporting family it has taught me about character and self-respect and I am looking forward to a tough competition from the other countries that will be participating.”
