THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team will be boosted by the return of “The General” Vatemo Ravouvou for the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand this weekend.
The Saunaka villager, who is earmarked for a France rugby contract soon, could be the third Olympian to play for the national side at the inaugural tournament.
He was dropped from the Oceania leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for disciplinary reasons after the Dubai and South Africa tournaments.
Team manager Jone Niurua confirmed yesterday that Ravouvou and Apenisa Cakaubalavu would attend training this morning in Hamilton after they were rushed in as replacements for injured Waisea Nacuqu and Apete Daveta.
Coach Gareth Baber on Wednesday said the replacements would boost Fiji’s campaign in Hamilton.
“We are working hard after the disappointment last week. We know we let everyone down and I am hurting, and the players are hurting,” Baber said.
Baber will have the services of six survivors from the Wellington 7s last year.
They are skipper Jerry Tuwai, Kalione Nasoko, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Jasa Veremalua, Mesulame Kunavula and Amenoni Nasilasila.
Tuwai, while thanking students of Woodstock Primary School which they visited yesterday, said the team would try win the tournament to break the losing streak in the ongoing series.
The tournament starts tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Fijians in New Zealand are spilling in numbers into Hamilton to support the national side.
