Duo get top awards

TWO newly-recruited Fijian soldiers Gunner Peni Turua and Gunner Totivi Sanday were awarded Best at Physical Training and Best Recruit awards as they passed Phase One training for the British Army recently.

The pair were part of a batch of recruits who passed out at the Army Training Regiment Pirbright (ATR(P)) and were presented their awards by Olympic Gold Medallist Dame Kelly Holmes who herself served in the British Army for 10 years.

In a statement the British Army said Gnr Sanday, 22, who won the Best Recruit Award embraced the intense physical and mental challenges thrown at him during his Phase One training and thoroughly enjoyed his time.

Before deciding to join the Army, Gnr Sanday from Tavualevu was an Electrical Engineer at Nadi Airport in Fiji.
