Duo acquitted of aggravated robbery charge

TWO people who were charged with one count each of aggravated robbery were acquitted by the High Court in Suva earlier this week.

Walesi Cyril Brown and Samisoni Kalou were alleged to have robbed Sireli Kacilala of an S5 Samsung Phone valued at $500 and a Huawei phone valued at $200 – all to the total value of $700, the property of Valerie Waqa.

High Court judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe overturned the three assessors’ decision who found both the accused guilty.

According to Justice Rajasinghe, the prosecution had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the two accused had committed the offence of aggravated robbery as charged.

The alleged incident occurred in July last year.
