Emele Duituturaga was appointed the general secretary for the suspended Social Democratic Liberal Party during a special management board meeting held at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel yesterday.
Ms Duituturaga said although this was the third time, the appointment was now permanent.
“The party (suspended) was required to go through a recruitment process and my appointment was a result of that nationally recognised practice, and of course I am very grateful for the confidence of the management to appoint me as SODELPA’s (suspended) permanent general secretary,” she said.
Ms Duituturaga said it was unfortunate that not all the members were in attendance for the meeting.
“There was an attempt to meet with the members.
“Our sole purpose for the day was to have the party unsuspended which is what the Registrar of Political Parties has asked us to attend to.”
She said she understood that there were eight other applicants for the position.
She said the suspended party’s recruitment process was outsourced to a recruitment agency.
