The Naqarani Rugby Club held a feast to acknowledge the remarkable feat they had achieved this year after winning the Koroturaga Shield in the Suva Rugby Union competition and a spot in the Escott Shield next year.

Present at the event were Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players Vinaya Habosi and Naqarani’s very own Onisi Ratave.

Naqarani captain Lepanoni Waqa said it was a privilege to have the two there. “It is a real honour to see them here,” said Waqa.

“Seeing them here really motivates us to work harder and to try and achieve what they had done for the Drua this season. To hear stories and get tips from them is a big plus and we will surely use to our advantage next year.”

Waqa said their journey in the Koroturaga Cup competition was not easy and thanked his teammates for getting the job done.

“Our journey this year was certainly not easy. In the beginning we did not have the numbers of players to begin with. Teams counted us out due to our size and we went out there to prove them wrong. The onus is now on us to perform next year. We will give it our best shot going up against big teams in Suva and we will be happy with wherever we finish off our journey.”

Ratave thanked the players for their performance against Lakeba in the Koroturaga Cup final and said great things were in store for his former team.

“We are all really proud of what they had achieved,” said Ratave. “I know the journey was not easy and I thank them for doing all the little things right because it all adds up in achieving greater things.”
