CATTLE are dying and dairy farmers in Nadelei, Tavua, are forced to buy mill mix to sustain their cattle as pastures have dried up due to the prolonged dry weather spell that is hitting the Western Division.

Nadelei Koko Naba Rua Dairy Farmers Cluster president Hirdesh Nand said many have experienced a drop in milk supply and some have been forced to sell animals because of the dry weather.

“I have one farmer who is selling a milking cow and a calf for just $600,” Mr Nand said.

“It is a huge loss to the farmer to sell off his animal for that amount.”
