WE must learn to conserve water and not misuse it since we are into the drought season, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during his visit to Lutu Village in Wainibuka yesterday.
He told villagers this after concerns on the water problems experienced over the past few weeks were raised by several villagers.
Mr Bainimarama said the Water Authority of Fiji had advised the public to take heed of the approaching dry season.
“We need to make this clear because I am worried that the drought season has begun for our country,” Mr Bainimarama said.
He said there needed to be rain to help us with this dry spell.
“However, we should not pray for too much rain or else we might experience flooding once again, but we need enough rain to help us through this drought,” he said.
Mr Bainimarama said if the drought season persisted, people would face more problems during the festive season.
“During the Christmas and New Year’s break, the weather is usually hot and if that combines with the drought season that we are currently experiencing, we will be facing many issues,” he said.
