NAWAKA was crowned the champions of the Nadi 10s tournament defeating Tovolea 12 in the final at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park on Saturday.
Evergreen Lalai Driu superbly led his team in a physical encounter to survive the challenge.
But it was nippy Ratu Visamaki who stole the show in the final scoring a brace of tries to Give Nawaka the win. The side collected $500 cash together with the Redbrick trophy while Tovolea settled for $200.
Nawaka defeated arch rival Saunaka 14-0 in the first semi final while Tovolea thumped Gaunavou 24-0 in a one sided second semi-final.
Navoci downed last year’s champion Saunivalu 17-7 to win the plate title together with $100 prizemoney.
Nadi Rugby secretary Ili Navula said the 10s tournament was a success as all teams had prepared well.
He said the 10s tournament was to officially launch the Nadi rugby season with a total of 20 teams taking part.
“The success of the 10s tournament has signalled a positive rugby season for Nadi and we are looking forward for the commencement of a new rugby season,” said Navula.
“All teams gave their best and Nawaka proved to be the best winning the top awards.”
Navula said the weekly club competition would kick off this weekend.
