GIANAMMA had no hope of supporting her children’s education. But her dream became a reality when she enrolled at the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre.

Ms Gianamma, who was among the 56 women that graduated from the centre yesterday, said she was blessed to have graduated with a certificate in sewing.

The 58-year-old of Labasa thought that she would not be able to go back to school or an institution as such.

“My dream has come true when I came to know about this institution from an old friend of mine. Without hesitation I enrolled and had been here until today,” she said.

Ms Gianamma said going to school without any knowledge of what awaited her and was surprised with what the institution had to offer.

“It was an eye-opener and a path to a new life for me. I would like to thank the management for giving me this opportunity. “During my learning in the past eight weeks, it has taught me that I can earn for myself and it has helped me look at the brighter side of life.”

Ms Gianamma challenged women and said they had an important role in their families, societies, communities and villages.

“If only we stand on our own feet and look to the future I can say we can do it. “My worries and burden are no more and I’m excited to showcase the skills I’ve learned from this centre.”
