Dream comes true

WHEN Sunishma Singh was 12, she dreamt of being a Hibiscus queen.

Seven years later, she is advocating the use of renewable energy to reduce the impact of climate change on our economy on the same platform she had always dreamt of.

The first-year Geospatial Science and Geography student at the University of the South Pacific is originally from Nadroga and enjoys fashion.

She believes strongly in being independent, and acknowledges her brother for teaching her to fend for herself from a young age.

“I never had to depend on anyone. If I had to do my assignment, I’d do it on my own because my brother taught me how to be independent.

“If I ever asked him for help with a math problem during high school, he’d tell me to go and study my notes and solve it by myself. And I did.”

Sunishma is inspired by her single mother for always getting through every hardship.

“When I see her, I see my future in her since she is so strong and so well versed with her environment.”

The 19-year-old is sponsored by Miss Cal Valley Solar.

She said participating in the Hibiscus Festival had brought out the inner lady in her, and managing her time wisely.
