Suva schoolteacher Nanise Kamikamica said she is the “luckiest mother” in the world.
This is because her son Tui Kamikamica, a rugby league international star, is living his dream.
The 26-year-old Melbourne Storm rugby league team prop is among four Fijians playing in the National Rugby League (NRL) grand final in Sydney, Australia today.
Other players are teammate Suliasi Vunivalu and Penrith Panthers’ pair Viliame Kikau and Apisai Koroisau.
“I count myself as the luckiest mother in the world,” Nanise, a Yat Sen Primary School teacher said.
“To have a son who cares such as Tui is all a mother could ask for. He will always call me and ask me how am I and tell me his problems. We share things that makes our bond stronger everyday.”
Nanise is her son’s number one fan. She is proud to have her son named in the Melbourne Storm line-up in the NRL 2020 grand final at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia, tomorrow.
“Ever since young and during his primary school days in Somosomo, Taveuni, he loved rugby and anything that he loved he made sure he achieved his dreams.
“Recently he was hospitalised for an injury and while we were talking, I was worried of him, but he told me
‘Mum I will not give up on my dream.’ I reminded him that there’s always light at the end of every tunnel.”
With a few hours left for Tui’s first NRL grand final, his mother gave him one last advice on Thursday night.
“You have come this far and ever since you joined the Melbourne Storm development team, you said that one day you will play in the grand final. That time has come.
“Trust yourself because I believe in you. We will be supporting you at home with your sister. I believe the families back in Somosomo, Taveuni will be cheering for you.”
The Kamikamicas will decorate their home purple to support the Melbourne Storm and Tui in their match against the Panthers.
