Dragons release Talei

FORMER Flying Fijians captain Netani Talei has been released by the Newport Gwent Dragons club in Wales.

The back-row player moved to the Dragons from Edinburgh in 2013 and made 20 appearances last season before succumbing to injury.

He had been ruled out of rugby until January 2015 after suffering foot injury that needed surgery.

The injury meant Talei did not compete in the current Guinness PRO 12 competition.

Dragon chief executive Gareth Davis was quoted as saying on the club website that Talei was a great addition to their squad last season.

The statement on the Dragons website said Talei had left the Welsh region with immediate effect.

“We wish him all the best with his recovery and his future in rugby,” he said.

“I would like to thank Netani for his contribution to the Dragons over the past 12 months.

“He is a dedicated rugby player and has been a great addition to the squad over the past season.”

The injury was the main reason Talei was not considered by Flying Fijians coach John McKee for the November Tour of Europe.
