Flying Fijians prop Mesake Doge has secured a good future from the exposure of playing top level rugby after the two recent Tests against the All Blacks.
Fiji gained international attraction and admiration after exposing the weaknesses of the world’s No.2 team and the former Rugby World Cup’s Webb Ellis Trophy holder in their two-Test series in New Zealand.
Doge has signed to play for Dragons Rugby in Wales from his Brive Rugby Club in the Top 14 competition.
“We’re pleased to sign Mesake and look forward him linking up with us in the coming weeks,” Dragons Rugby director of rugby Dean Ryan said.
“He’s impressed in the recent Test series with the All Blacks and is determined to come to Wales and develop even further and make a big impression with us,” Ryan said.
Dragons are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. They are owned by the Welsh Rugby Union and play their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport and at other grounds around the region. They play in the Pro14 league and the European Rugby Champions Cup/European Rugby Challenge Cup.
“I’m delighted to be joining Dragons. After speaking with Dean and the coaching team, I was very impressed with their vision for the region and their plans for my development,” Doge, 28, told RugbyPass after playing the ABs in Hamilton last weekend.
“To have the opportunity to compete against the very best in the United Rugby Championship and to be joining such a talented squad is truly a blessing. I can’t wait to begin my journey with Dragons.
