Dr Waqainabete: Domestic violence continues despite progressive laws

DESPITE Fiji’s progressive laws such as the Family Law Act, Crimes Act and the Domestic Violence Act, the issue of domestic violence continue to be pervasive in Fiji, says Health and Medical Services Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

Dr Waqainabete said Fiji’s high rates of domestic violence was not unique, but it reflected the high rates of domestic violence across the Pacific.

“In Fiji, 64 per cent of women in Fiji face intimate violence in the first six months of this year,” he said.
