THE late Dr Jiko Luveni not only shattered glass ceilings, but served as an inspiration for women parliamentarians across the region.

This was highlighted by President Jioji Konrote while speaking at the Pacific Women in Power Forum reception at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Monday. Women members of parliaments from 11 countries are present for the two-day workshop that ends today.

While welcoming the parliamentarians, Mr Konrote acknowledged the vision of late Dr Luveni.

“At the outset, I also acknowledge the vision, passion and leadership of a great Fijian woman, a great leader, loyal and hardworking and a humble civil servant, and the first woman Speaker of the Fijian Parliament, the late Dr Jiko Luveni, who in 2018 started discussions on the need for such a forum,” he said.

Mr Konrote also thanked Speaker Ratu Epeli Nailatikau for turning that vision into a reality.

“The forum provides a platform to engage women leaders to share your vast experiences and assist in key issues to help in your important role as members of parliament.”

He urged parliamentarians to use the opportunity to extend networks, build relationships and enhance their knowledge on leadership issues.
