The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has a stock of personal protective equipment (PPE) that could last four months.

When asked if the ministry had received all the resources it needed to ensure health recommendations were effectively enforced in terms of monitoring, enforcement, awareness and education, Dr Fong said, “this virus has its own characteristics and we can only say that we have enough with what we currently have, that much I can say.”

“We have enough for the current way in which we are approaching these problems but whether we will have the ideal amount of resources available and the amount of know-how available is a difficult question,” he said.

“You want the community to be more co-operative, yes.

“You want to solicit a lot of community awareness exercise for them to be part of the solution, we still need more of that.

“With regards to PPE and with regards to other equipment, I must say that at the conservative estimate, we estimate that we have four months of supply with regards to PPE and we are still having more people bringing in PPE, masks and various other garments that we are supposed to use to protect ourselves.

“Is it ever enough? That is a very difficult question to ask.”
