The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is reviewing a police docket involving former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama, former attorney-general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho and former director of the Criminal Investigations Department Mesake Waqa.

In a statement, the DPP said the docket was received on February 17 and was being reviewed according to standard ODPP procedures.

“Once a police docket is received, a ODPP officer is allocated the file and has 21 days to complete a legal analysis which is then submitted to his or her manager for review,” the statement read.

“The manager then has a further seven days to review the legal opinion and make recommendations to the DPP who then makes a decision on what charges, if any, are to be laid.”

The statement also stated alternatively, the docket may be returned to the police for further investigation again before being submitted to the DPP for final decision.
