The Ro Alivereti Doviverata coached Rewa team has learnt valuable lessons in the Vodafone Vanua Championship this season which will help in their transition back into the Skipper Cup next year.
Rewa defeated Nanukuloa 22-13 in the semi-final at Garvey Park in Tavua last Saturday to gain automatic promotion to the top flight together with Northland.
The Delta Tigers did their homework well against Nanukuloa targeting their scrums which resulted in two penalty tries in their favour.
Doviverata said they would need to put a strategic plan in place so they do not repeat the mistakes that cost them demotion in 2019.
He said the hard work put in by the team management and players proved to be fruitful after they accomplished their main target for this season.
“We have learnt our lessons from 2019 as there were some areas that we did not do well in,” Doviverata said.
“But now that we have been promoted things will be different. We have a good management team and have got good support from our vanua.
“We will now hold a meeting after the Vanua Championship final to map our strategic plan for next year’s Skipper Cup.”
Ironically both Rewa and Northland were relegated to the Vodafone Vanua Championship after finishing at the bottom of the Skipper Cup in 2019. Doviverata said with the Skipper Cup berth secured, the focus would turn towards the final.
“We have played Northland twice in the Central Zone competition this year,” he said.
“I watched them play the semi-final against Ba last Friday and they were strong. We will work out a plan to counter them in the final.”
Yasawa has already been relegated to the Vodafone Vanua Championship next year.
