The doubleheader of the second Farebrother Challenge and the first Bainimarama Challenge are still under discussion at the Fiji Rugby House in Suva.
This was confirmed by Fiji Rugby Union administrator Simione Valenitabua in a news conference at the Rugby House in Suva on Tuesday, Valenitabua said they were still yet to decide whether to have the doubleheader, having recorded a disappointing fan turnout to the first Farebrother Challenge at Lawaqa Park on Saturday.
“We always see things from a revenue-generating side, and how much such games make as to how much we need to spend.
“Seeing the disappointment in the turnout of fans on Saturday for the first challenge, we are still discussing whether to have a doubleheader,” he said.
In the first Farebrother Challenge in Sigatoka on Saturday, Nadroga managed to defeat challenger Namosi 23-15 to retain their title.
“This is because we want players to play at an atmosphere or a level where the supporters and spectators are there in numbers.
“This is so they can get a feel of what local rugby is all about at the top level.”
He said if they were to host a doubleheader in Raiwaqa, they needed to have a different atmosphere that players should experience.
“We just want our players to have the top experience in playing in the top competitions locally, that will prepare them for even bigger competitions.”
In the next Farebrother Challenge, Nadroga faces Naitasiri this weekend.
