THE two rundown dormitories at Queen Victoria School (QVS) in Tailevu that were renovated by the Indonesian Government after Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016 are still closed.

The two dorms have been closed since January last year after windows are missing louvre blades, holes in walls, falling ceiling, exposed electricity wires and cracks on the walls and ceilings are visible.

No rehabilitation works has commenced ever since.

Education, Heritage and Arts Minister Rosy Akbar said a new hostel project for QVS would be funded by the Indonesian government.

“The construction work may be expected to be completed within this year depending on resource availability and favourable weather,” she said.

“The ministry is committed to ensuring that an amicable learning environment is created to support learning and teaching in our schools.”
