Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s forward Sesenieli Donu will be taking to the field today for the first time in eight months.

The 27-year-old injured her right knee during the Women’s Rugby World Cup late last year.

Donu is currently part of the extended Fijiana 7s side that is preparing for the Mini International Women’s tournament at Albert Park starting today.

The tournament will feature the top four teams in the World Rugby Series. “It’s good to be back on the field training with the girls,” the Nadroga lass said.

“These past few months have been very tough for me, going through recovery and not being able to run out onto the field for a long time was very challenging.”

Donu was part of the Fijiana 7s side that won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and competed in the Women’s Rugby World Cup later the same year.

“In these past few months, I have tried to have a positive mindset, and just keep out all the negativities.”

As she prepares for this weekend, she is excited to take the field and pick up where she left off from. “This is a very exciting tournament because we have the top four teams playing each other.

“We also have a few young new players in the team who are very talented, I am excited to play alongside them this weekend.”

The tournament kicks start today and will feature Australia, New Zealand, France, the United States of America, and Fiji.
