THE Chinese government handed over a donation to the Speaker of Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni recently to assist the Fijian Parliament in the new session of Parliament.

Dr Luveni while receiving the donations said China has always been a great friend to Fiji.

She said the donation reflects the profound friendship and the strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development between the two countries.

Chinese ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo presented the donation last Friday.

Dr Luveni acknowledged the donation and said that it will have a direct impact on the interior of the Parliament Chamber and also for the provision of specialized secretariat support for the new Parliament.

“Through your generosity, we will be able to enhance our capabilities and support to Members of Parliament so that they are able to undertake their legislative, oversight and representative mandates, through development of efficient processes and working methods ensuring that the SDGs and development issues, including gender, are mainstreamed in Parliament’s work,” she said.
