ABOUT 70 dogs in Lautoka have been de-sexed in the first week of a campaign by the Greater Good Foundation to address the stray animal issue in the Sugar City.

Foundation executive Kamni Narayan said they were pleased with the progress being made.

“We have neutered and spayed more than 68 dogs and the numbers coming in every day since we began this campaign have been really encouraging,” she said.

“While we have been getting a number of pets, the majority of dogs that we have treated are strays that we have captured at the Vunato Dump and on the streets of Lautoka.”

Ms Narayan said the foundation was also encouraged by the number of volunteers that have come forward since the campaign began on Tuesday last week.

“We thank everyone that has volunteered and are helping us with caring for dogs, capturing dogs and transporting animals to and from the clinic.”

The Greater Good Foundation is conducting a free de-sexing campaign from February 19 to March 2 at the old Lautoka Police Station.

Anyone interested in getting their pet de-sexed should contact Ms Narayan on 8397404 or Maleeka Buksh on 864 0200.
